Photography Workshops With Steven Beckman

Hands-on learning, real-world practice, small groups, and expert guidance for all levels.

Winding road lined with vibrant red and orange autumn trees under a blue sky.

I’ve been passionate about photography since I was 13 years old. After decades of shooting, studying, and refining my craft, I’ve created workshops that blend technical mastery with artistic expression. My goal is simple: to help you grow as a photographer through real-world practice, honest critique, and supportive, down-to-earth guidance.

I teach by doing : you’ll practice techniques on the spot, not just hear about them.

Beginner Photography Workshop

Someone must have shared Josef K’s portfolio, for one morning, without having done anything truly self-promotional, he was lauded.

I am no longer an invisible photographer.

Somewhere in la Mancha, in a place whose name I do not care to remember, a photographer lived not long ago, one of those who has a camera and a speedlight and keeps a bag of lenses and a tripod for shooting.  On-Location Workshops

There’s something transformative about stepping out into a real environment with a camera in hand. The light is unpredictable, the scenes are unscripted, and every moment challenges you to adapt, react, and create. That’s where growth truly happens.

I guide you through the process of seeing differently — noticing details others walk past, framing compositions with intent, and understanding how to work with whatever the scene gives you. Whether we’re shooting cityscapes, landscapes, street scenes, or a mix of everything, you’ll learn how to handle changing conditions while developing your own visual voice.

These sessions are immersive, practical, and built around discovering the rhythm of real-world photography — step by step, shot by shot.

  • Duration: Full Day (varies by location)
  • Where: On-location (cityscape, street, scenic routes)
  • Group Size: Small group for personalized guidance
  • Price: $500 (meals not included)
  • Focus: Composition, storytelling, natural light, genre-specific shooting

FAQ

What gear do I need?

You don’t need anything fancy to join my workshops. A camera that allows manual control is ideal, DSLR or mirrorless along with a fully charged battery and an empty memory card. If you have multiple lenses, bring them, but one good lens is perfectly fine. I also recommend comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing for on-location shoots.

Are workshops suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. My Beginner Workshop is designed specifically for those who are new to photography or want to understand the fundamentals more clearly. I explain everything step by step and you’ll have plenty of hands-on practice. No prior experience is necessary.

What happens in bad weather?

Photography doesn’t stop when the weather changes  in fact, some of the most dramatic images happen during unusual conditions. For on-location workshops, we’ll adapt safely to the weather, adjust the shooting plan, or shift our approach to take advantage of the available light. Only in extreme or unsafe conditions would we reschedule.
